ICONIC EVOLUTION

A haute couture collection fusing Jean Paul Gaultier's Camp universe with the aesthetic of Missy Elliott and The Golden Era of Hip Hop (1986–1993). Bold silhouettes, mixed textures and fluid, expressive garments designed to empower through fashion and break away from gender stereotypes.

1. Camp Universe

  • A design sensibility built on irony, exaggeration and theatricality, rooted in Jean Paul Gaultier's approach to haute couture.

  • References drawn from Elsa Schiaparelli and Alessandro Michele, framed through Susan Sontag's writing on Camp as a cultural category.

  • Bold, artificial and overstated shapes used deliberately, not as excess but as a form of self-expression.

2. The Golden Era of Hip Hop

  • A cultural movement (1986–1993) expressed fluidly through music, dance, art and lifestyle, not just a sound, but a way of dressing and standing in a room.

  • Visual language drawn from the genre's four elements, rap, turntablism, breaking and graffiti, translated into oversized silhouettes and street-level attitude.

  • Anchored by Missy Elliott as muse: an artist who used fashion to challenge gender norms and promote individuality and self-confidence.

3. From Concept to Garment

  • Development began with hand-drawn figurines, translating the Camp/Hip Hop concept into wearable silhouettes before moving to pattern.

  • Techniques were chosen to match the mood: embroidery, print and draping, each piece intervened by hand rather than left as a raw base garment.

  • The pink faux fur jacket was finished with a hand-sewn gold chain, stitched directly onto the trim to bridge softness with hip hop's metallic excess.

  • The oversized denim trousers were draped and paneled, then fitted with hanging chain details at the waist.

Key Results & Deliverables
